Pre-Game: @ LA Galaxy

by Brendan Wyatt

The Rapids are in LA tonight to take on the Galaxy in a battle to stay out of the cellar of MLS.  The Galaxy is just a point ahead of Colorado in the standings with 23 points.  That is not just the Western Conference; these two teams are fighting not be the worst team in the league with nine games to go.

As if that opening paragraph didn’t help get you excited to watch this game then maybe the reminder that both teams are missing “big name” players due to World Cup Qualifying games will help you. The Galaxy is without the Dos Santos duo (Mexico), and the Rapids are without Tim Howard (USA)… and Mekeil Williams (T&T).     Alan Gordon will be missing due to his double yellow performance last week, and Galaxy defender Nathan Smith is also suspended because of a red card.

The Galaxy is in a Twilight Zone and is struggling to find success without Bruce Arena.  Their stellar home record is in shambles as the Galaxy has managed to win just one game at home.  Still without a road win the Rapids go into a place where they have won 7 times.  If something unexplainable, unimaginable and unexpected could happen tonight, please let it happen in the favor of the Rapids, thank you.

It’s a fairly safe bet that Zac MacMath will step between the pipes in Tim Howard’s absence. MacMath may be coming off a knee surgery, but it wasn’t that bad of a knee surgery.  He was out at training the day after surgery when there was more bubble wrap on his leg than that “French” lamp in The Christmas Story.

We still get to hope that Stefan Aigner will see the pitch. Until we get to see him play we still get to hope that he may add a spark to finish off a season doused in disappointment.

Guys should be playing for their livelihoods at this point.  Not many guys on either roster are guaranteed to be with their team next season, so they should be playing for a roster spot no matter where they end up.

Week after week the burgundy boys are breaking out of the Pablo mold and are figuring out how to play with each other again. With the last road game so close to home, the Rapids were able to take advantage of a few days of training before leaving on a jet plane.

The kickoff is at 9pm (MST) so if you hit up one of the C38 bars early, pace yourself.

Predicted starting XI: MacMath, Hairston, Watts, Sjoberg, Miller, Saied, Azira, Boateng, Badji, Doyle, Gashi.
