The Rapids are in Vancouver tonight to take on the Whitecaps. This is the third game between the two teams this season and with Vancouver wining one and tying one, it’s time for the Rapids to bag a win. The Rapids are 9-6-4 overall against the Whitecaps, with a 2-4-3 record at BC Place.
A few Rapids players have managed to score against Vancouver. Kevin Doyle has three against the Whitecaps. Gashi’s goal of the year was at BC Place and he is tied with Dom and Axel with two goals against the Canucks…err Whitecaps.
Vancouver will be without Kendall Waston because he racked up enough yellow cards to get suspended for a game. This is a good thing as Waston has scored three against us overall (not a hat trick in one game). Freddy Montero is still a handful and he’s dumped five in our net and assisted on another five, so the defense will have to step their game up.
This game will be on turf so tactically there will be some alterations. Second and third balls will become more important than the first touch. Guys won’t want to slide, so tackling will be a bit more upright and if the Rapids can make quick passes in to space that will eliminate the choppy play up the middle. Even though the Rapids are not as fit as they would like to be; hold up style of play may not be effective here and if they can keep the ball moving they may find themselves returning home with three points.
Hit up the Celtic downtown for the C38 viewing party. Of course all the other C38 bars will be showing the game, but the Celtic is the place to be for this one.
I’m expecting the same lineup as last week, so here is your predicted starting XI: Howard, Miller, Ford, Sjoberg, Williams, Azira, Watts, Hairston, Saied, Gatt, Badji.
