Pre-Game: Montreal

by Brendan Wyatt

Ok, so maybe the Rapids are officially out of playoff contention; but that doesn’t mean you can’t come out to play with your friends and watch some soccer, too.   Tonight’s opponent is Montreal and if you forgot that there is a team up there, that might be because we only play them once in a season.

Montreal sits 4 points behind the Red Bulls for the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.  The Rapids could play spoiler tonight as the team looks to boost morale after Kevin Doyle announced his retirement.  He will be missed in the locker room by his teammates and on the field by his fans.

Neither team went home with three points after losing Wednesday and are looking to rebound so it may come down to who wants it more.  Teams have not been afraid to play the Rapids as a team in the past, but they still fear playing at altitude.  All the burgundy boys need to do is keep the ball in play and the other guys will be on their heels.

There isn’t much history between these two teams, the Rapids are 3-1-1 overall against the Impact.  While Ignacio Piatti is the guy most teams worry about, Dominic Oduro has three goals and an assist against the Rapids in his career (10 games started 16 games played).

The Rapids will hopefully be turning to Axel Sjoberg and Jared Watts to shut Piatti and Oduro down.  Both Axel and Jared did not play on Wednesday.  Stefan Aigner got his first start and played 55 minutes, could he be fit enough to start again tonight?

Dom Badji could hit his ten goal mark, and if we wanted to keep his streak alive we can say he has scored in three straight Saturday games.  Tonight is Star Wars night, so Storm Troopers will be out and about.  If you can find a way to add Rapids to your cosmic cosplay, do it and I’m sure you will be on display.

Tailgate kicks off at 4pm; the game will begin around 7pm.  Stay tuned to the Voice of C38’s twitter for info on who the team will send out as a guest.

Predicted starting XI: Howard, Miller, Ford, Sjoberg, Williams, Watts, Azira, Aigner, Saied, Serna, Badji
