Game Preview: Rapids v FC Dallas

by Brendan Wyatt

It is the final Rapids game of the season and although there are no playoffs to push for, there is always pride.  The Rapids have started to show signs of life as the 2018 season wraps up; the last two games were shutouts, which hasn’t been done since 2016.

Today’s opponent is FC Dallas, who is an organic rival to boot.  These two teams have had some history, never mind the 2010 MLS Cup final; the Rapids now have Kellyn Acosta and Dallas now has Dom Badji. Both guys have scored just two goals since the trade, but Rapids fans still think that they got the better end of the deal.

Long time Rapids fans will also remind others that FC Dallas head coach has tended to lose his team towards the end of the season.  Patterns show that FC Dallas often will drop points down the final stretch; as shown in the 0-3 loss to Sporting KC last week.

Although Dallas does fall off the table a bit at the end of the season, there is room to fall when you’ve been at the top of the table for most of the season.  FC Dallas is tied for 2nd place with LAFC (57points) who are below Sporting KC who have 59. Sporting KC and LAFC face each other today so by tomorrow there will be a clear answer as to who is at the top of the Western Conference.

The Rapids who have managed two clean sheets in a row aught to be looking at fielding pretty much the same squad as last week.  There have been some small injury concerns with some players; some of these players may have seen their last days in Colorado.  The most important of note is Kortne Ford is listed as questionable with his knee still bothering him.  Jack Price was listed as questionable earlier in the week, but this guy knows firsthand that Price takes the first part of the week off to recover.  It’s the last game of the season and while Tommy Smith may have played more games; Jack Price gets my Manly Man of the Year award – I don’t see him missing this one.

There is a 2:30 kickoff for this one and the weather looks promising for a game at the end of October.  Come celebrate the season with C38 in the style of an Irish Wake and tip our hat to what was a long and eventful season.
