There is a cliché that goes “it’s gets worse before it gets better” and that is what it is starting to feel like when it comes to the Colorado Rapids. Has the worse already happened? Sitting at 0-9-2 for the season, going into LA where they are 7-24-6 all time sure does seem like it can’t get much worse for Rapids fans, and staff. If it helps, those are the worse stats that I’ll mention in this article.
The Galaxy are not the same struggling team that they were last year, at 7-4-1 LA sit comfortably in 4th place. LA will also have to go two games without Zlatan, who picked up a two-game ban for violent conduct last weekend. Much like the Rapids Diego Rubio, who also picked up another game suspension for his altercation against Vancouver, so he won’t be going to Hollywood this time.
With little left to lose the Rapids might look to changing some things up in on the pitch in order to find some chemistry that will help them gel as a team. Should the Rapids want to go more on the attack, adding a Cole Bassett or a Dillon Serna might do the trick. Last week we saw glimpses of a solid player in Sebastian Anderson, along with reminders that he is just 16; there could be a change here as well.
The frustration comes from knowing that when the Rapids are playing at full potential, they could be tough to beat and fun to watch. The trend with the last two games seems to be that while bad luck follows them, they are a team just now coming together. Another frustrating fact about following the Rapids at this point in the season is that it’s becoming easier to find other things to watch, especially when GOT is on.
Let me offer up a scenario where watching the Rapids beat LA and bag their first win of the season could be worth waiting a little while longer before changing the channel. With a few subtle changes to the lineup it does just enough to add some spark and creativity to the midfield in order to get Kei the ball. The defense still has some work, but because of the link up play in the midfield, this Sunday becomes a night you will look back on.
