Game Preview: Rapids v Dynamo

by Brendan Wyatt

The Colorado Rapids are in Houston tonight as they look to do the reversal against the Dynamo. Houston came to Colorado earlier in the year and capitalized on two own goals in a 4-1 victory.  Houston has had a bit of a downward slide recently having lost its last four games, winning only two in their last twelve.  That was enough to see their coach Wilmer Cabrera get fired last week.

A midweek showdown in Minnesota that snapped the Rapids goal scoring streak might have the Rapids a little heavy legged.  It’s quite possible that the same lineup will be used today as it was on Wednesday. Jack Price didn’t travel to Minnesota and is not listed on any injury report so he could be rested for this match.  Tim Howard is still listed as questionable with an undisclosed injury, meanwhile the only other absentees will be Kortne Ford and Deklan Wynne.

Fresh legs will help here; the Houston humidity is no joke and can be more of a home field advantage than altitude in my book.  Imagine playing 90+ minutes in our Denver heat, then add water to the air so thick your shower towel never dries out completely; it’s like trying to cut your way though a jungle with only a kitchen knife.

This game could also be a good time for the Rapids to show us some killer mentality. With Houston having lost 10 of their last 12 games and firing their coach, means that the Dynamo isn’t running on all cylinders and can be beaten.  It took the Rapids two games to get on a new track, how many will it take Houston?
